Lala’s Story
Nice to meet you! I'm Hila Fersi, but in the world of art, you’ll know me as Lala Fshasha.
I am a textile and mixed - media artist specializing in creations that intertwine threads, ropes, ribbons, and other materials. Art has always been an inseparable part of me - not just as a means of expression but as a thread connecting generations of creative women in my family.
I don’t know how it was for others, but for me - before I even learned to read, I already knew how to unravel threads. I grew up in a home where fabrics piled up like small mountains and threads trailed across the floor like secret pathways. My mother, a professional seamstress, had the kind of hands that could turn a simple piece of fabric into a masterpiece. My grandmother, who immigrated from Morocco to Israel in the 1950s, was also a major influence in my life. For her, handicraft was a quiet language - each loop she crocheted and every pattern she created was a testament to the roots she carried with her.
My connection to threads is not just material but emotional and cultural. It allows me to trace the past while creating something contemporary and forward-looking.

My Art – Between Tradition and Innovation
Thread-based art and macramé, like many textile arts, were traditionally considered “women’s crafts” and often dismissed as lesser forms of art compared to painting or sculpture. But to me, they are powerful tools for breaking the boundaries between art and craft, between tradition and disruption.
I explore new textures, blending traditional techniques with contemporary media, bridging the world of design with modern art. My work exists in the space between the familiar and the new - between threads and painting techniques, between traditional knots and previously unseen textures, between conventional design and artistic rebellion.
I play with materials until they flow like paint, soften like a dream, or take form in ways one wouldn’t expect from mere threads. My art speaks of movement - not just of threads, but also of color, material, and inner transformation. I carefully select materials, build layers and depth, and strive to turn knots and fibers into something emotionally, culturally, and visually meaningful.

The Creative Process – A Search for Originality
My favorite stage of creation is experimentation - the moment I explore a new technique, challenge conventions, and shape my own artistic language. If there’s one moment when I feel most like myself, it’s not when I complete a piece - it’s during the process of discovery.
This is when I play with fresh ideas, combine techniques that weren’t meant to coexist, break rules, and deconstruct only to rebuild in unexpected ways. My creativity is driven by curiosity and a desire to innovate, making every piece a journey of exploration - an evolving dialogue of colors, textures, and intertwined techniques forming a visual language only I fully understand.
Every day is dedicated to creation, yet it also includes moments of meditation, yoga, and reading - allowing me to draw inspiration from new sources. I believe that great art is born from deep self-connection and an openness to the world around us.
I invite you to look, connect, and find the piece that speaks to you.
Yours,
Lala Fshasha
